Gianna Surra's Book Report on "The Unwanteds"

Name:  Gianna Surra

Title of Book: The Unwanteds

Author: Lisa McMann

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.
The problem in the story is that these kids from Quill are sorted, and because they are creative
they have to be killed.   This is solved by Mr. Today saves them and takes them to Artime. Also a
problem is that one of the kids has a twin and his brother is a wanted.  He wants to ask his brother
to come to Artime with him and he does. That makes a war because Quill doesn’t know about
Artime and they want the Unwanteds dead.  So they have to go to war to fix that.

What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.
The authors purpose is to entertain.  I know this because it is a fantasy book and it has magic.

What did the title have to do with the book?
The title is one of the way that Quil ( The city that is strict) sorts the people.  They can be a wanted
that means they go to college. A necessary that means they work on farms or they can be an
unwanted that mens you are exterminated.

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.
The setting makes this story interesting since It is magical, so they can to magic to fight.  Their
transportation is different since they can go through a tube and get to where ever in seconds.
Also they have a chalkboard that tells them where to go and when.

If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make sure the
question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the character with the
question!!*

If Alex Stowe came to my classroom I would ask him if he thinks it was good or bad that they held
him back from magical warrior training.

Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling what you
would say.

I would request this book for kids that like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson.  Harry Potter reminds
me of The Unwanteds because it has magical beings, and teachers.  The kids get to learn magic, and
that depends on what they are creative in. The Percy Jackson part is the barrier they have so the
Quillens don’t find Artime.  If they leave Artime and go to Quill they could kill the whole city of
Artime. Also The Unwanteds is a series so if you like series you would like this book.

If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain the scene with details and why it's important.

The scene that I think is the most important for the movie is when Artime fights Quill.  They get to
show their magic skills off and fighting scenes are sometimes the best part of the movie.

  1. This book seems very much like Harry Potter and very different at the same me time this makes me want to read the book even more to compare the two series to see how similar they really are. Also this book kind of reminds me of The LEGO Movie because of its fantasy pieces throughout the book and how they are hiding in a place that Quill does not know about. It seems like a good book to read to pass the time at any time so I think I’m going to consider reading this book.
