Shawn Mertz' Book Report on "Cosmic"

Title of Book: Cosmic

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.  The problem in this book

was that the main character and his friends got stuck in space in a rocket and here's how. It all

started when the main character entered a contest to win a trip to the cosmic (A giant spaceship).

He ended up winning and since his dad would not go he took his friends. Then when they were

in the spaceship it failed and started to launch which led to them being in space. Then they realized

that there was an emergency shuttle so they took into Earth's atmosphere. When in Earth's

atmosphere one of his friends saw a button on his suit and pushed it and a parachute came out

and that's how they all made it back to Earth safely.

What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.

The author purpose was for entertaining because it is a realistic fiction story which involves

people being sent to space and having to figure out how to get back I mean who doesn't find

that interesting. There is always the mystery if they will make it back and that what makes it so

cool!

What did the title have to do with the book? The title Cosmic has a lot to do with the book and

here's why. The reason Cosmic is so important to this book is because its the name of the rocket

thats takes them to space.

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.  

The setting of the story was really cool! It starts out in a boring old town but there's one character

in specific who is really tall so he can trick people to think he older so it's not that bad. But then

the cool part comes out when their in the spaceship trying to find their way back to Earth. They

just start running around screaming their heads off and fall asleep it's hilarious!

If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make sure

the question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the character

with the question!!* If Max visited our classroom I would ask him what it was like in the

spaceship. I would also ask him how did he figure out how to survive.

Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling

what you would say. The book starts out with main character being Max. He is a very tall boy

for his age and a lot of people think he is older than he really is. His dad gives him a phone that

lets him track his position. Max enters a contest to win a trip to the cosmic and everything

goes wrong. He ends making it back home because of the phone his dad game him that's how

they figure out where Earth is. Overall it is an amazing book!

If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain

the scene with details and why it's important. The most important scene to include would be the

part where they are sent to space. The reason why is it is just a big plot twist and has a lot to do

with the story. As you know the Cosmic is a rocketship.
