Title of Book: The Incredible Magic of Being.
Author: Kathryn Erskine
What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.
Julian, his mom, Joan, and also his big sister Pookie Move to Maine. Pookie does not like it
but Julian loves it he gets to look at the stars and constellations he said there was no “ Light
pollution” . Also Pookie wants to know who her father is but Joan and their mom keep
saying no so she runs away because she thinks that her family only pays attention to Julian.
When they find her they tell her that they did not move to maine for Julian and it was for all
of them so they could live in a quiet place. Pookie also is nicer to Julian and her parents
after she gets back and does not get so mad all the time.
What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.
The author’s purpose is to entertain. She talks about two kids and their parents moving to
Maine Julian and Pookie. Julian is a really smart nine year old who wants to write a book
about science when he is older and he said once he dies he wants to become the constellation
“dog star” so his family can see him. It is also to inform, the main character Julian talks
about science and space. He also tells us about what he wants to do when he grows up, he
wants to be a scientist and let everyone know about the science and space and how we can
make a change in the world.
What did the title have to do with the book?
The title is “ The Incredible Magic of Being “ and the book is about this nine year old boy
named Julian and how he talks about the world of science and how something is or what it
means because he is really smart and wants to become a scientist and learn more about the
world and space.
Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.
The setting made it more interesting by moving to Maine. It made it interesting because his big
sister is mad, she thinks that her parents only pay attention to Julian and by moving to Maine it
made it worse and she thinks they moved to Maine for Julian but her parents say they moved for all
of them to live in a quiet place. Now that she knows she is not mad all the time and is nicer to Julian
and her parents.
If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make sure the question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the character with the question!!* I would ask Julian about space and what makes up the universe? Also how life is in
Maine with his family? Last but not least how is Pookie and has she meet her father yet?
Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling what you would say. I would say this, This book The Incredible Magic of Being is an awesome book
about this nine year old boy Julina who is very smart for his age. Also he is funny but sometimes
over protective about himself and family. They moved to Maine from Washington D.C.and
Julian knows just about everything to know about the universe and how it works. His sister Pookie
is fourteen and can be very mean and uncaring. She also likes to slack off a lot and she is jealous
about Julian, she thinks her parents only pay attention to him. Pookie runs away from her new
home in Maine. After they find her they tell her they did not move to Maine for Julian and it was for
everyone so they can live in a nice quiet place. She also is nicer to Julian and her parents after she
gets home.
If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain the scene with details and why it's important. I think the most important scene to include would be the
one time that Pookie came back after she ran away. I pick that part because Pookie is nicer to
everyone and not so mad and uncaring all the time. I want this scene so people can see how much
she has improved her act and is way nicer to everyone.
I enjoyed this book. I recommended it to Mr. Henry and he and I were having a debate about Julian being a "uni-sensor." I thought the idea of a "uni-sensor" was silly and didn't get it and he thought it was something that could happen. Do you have an opinion on that?
ReplyDeleteI think that he is a "uni-sensor".
DeleteThis book report was very good and it's interesting.
