Title of Book: HERO
Author: Jennifer Li Shotz
What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.
The problem of the book was that Ben and his dog, Hero, found a puppy in the woods at a
local park. Afterwards, they found out that he was part of a dog fight in a barn out of town.
The owner saw Ben, Hero, and Scout at the park. Then Ben couldn’t find Scout after school
the one day. Then Ben went to the dog shelter to find out that Mitch (Scout’s owner ) was
there, but didn’t put down any information. Ben and his friend Noah were looking
everywhere for Scout, no luck. Finally, Ben found the barn where Scout and 30 other dogs
were. Then Mitch pulled out a knife on Ben. Then, Hero ran to Mitch and knocked him
down. Hero bit a piece of Mitch’s jean, but Ben didn’t know that he stuck it in this pocket.
Later, they found Scout in the last cage in the second row. Then they went home. The
problem was solved by Ben’s dad, a cop, he investigated the crime. Over 15 guys were busted,
but Mitch was nowhere to be seen. Then Ben remembered that he put Mitch’s ripped jeans in
his pocket. Then Ben held it out to Hero and said,”Hero go find...”. So Hero found his way to
Mitch’s house, where he was inside. Ben’s dad called for backup, and fast. Scout and Hero
ran into Mitch’s house, then Ben, then his dads, then the backup. Officer Perillo handcuffed
Mitch and took him to jail. That was the problem and how it was solved.
What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.
The author’s purpose of the book was to entertain. I can tell that it is entertaining because if it
was to persuade it would try to make you convinced about something. If it was to inform it
would be throwing facts to you left, right, and center. The author’s purpose was to entertain.
What did the title have to do with the book?
That title of the book, HERO, has to do with the book because Hero is the name of the dog
who used to be part of the K-9 unit. In chapter 4 it talked about how Hero helped round up
the farm animals. In Chapter 9 it talked about officer Perillo training Hero to be part of the
K-9 unit. There was also a time when there was a new student named Jack, and he played
baseball like Ben. During tryouts Jack was pitching to Ben, and hit Ben on purpose. So Hero
comes run on the the field after Jack. The title is related to the book.
Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.
The setting of the story made the book better. One reason why the setting made it better
because When Ben, Noah, And Hero went to find Scout it was night to make it seem like it
was more dangerous and outgoing. Also When Ben, Noah, Jack, And Hero Were playing
baseball (Hero was just there not playing) it was daytime to make it seem like they they
practicing for tryouts, and hardworking kids.
If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make sure the
question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the character with the
question!!*
Hey Noah what happened to all of the dogs Ben and you saved?
Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling what
you would say.
I would say,”Hey! This book called HERO is a great book. It is a story about a boy named Ben,
and a dog named Hero. One day Ben and Hero found a dog at the local park, and named him Scout.
Then, this guy named Mitch who was Scout old owner before he ran away. Then later, Ben lost
Scout, and Ben and His friend Noah went looking for Scout. After that, they found scout and Mitch
in a barn at a dog fight, which Mitch started. Then, Mitch pulled a knife out on Ben. Then Ben’s dad
is a cop, so he then invested the crime. Then, Since Hero used to be part of the K-9 unit, he is really
good at finding people. So that what he did, Hero found Mitch in his house. Finally, an officer came
in and arrested Mitch.” That is what I would say.
If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain the
scene with details and why it's important.
The most important scene would be when Ben, Hero, and Scout meets Mitch at the park. It is the
most important scene because it introduces Mitch, then which leads up to the problem of the book.
This book report was done amazingly! I would definitely read this book if you were the librarian giving it to me. In this report though, it would've been more awesome if you would've added more about Hero's past, or maybe Ben's dad.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very well thought out project and it clearly took a while. If I was the person you recommended the book to I would definitely read it.
