Title of Book: The Graveyard Book

Author: Neil Gaiman

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.  The problem in the book was

a child had lost his family and is being hunted by a person called The Man Jack.

What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.

The author’s  purpose is to entertain.  They do not have informative text and they are not persuading

you to buy anything.

What did the title have to do with the book?

The title had to do with the setting of the book.  

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.

The setting of the story gave more meaning to the title of the book.

If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make sure the

question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the character with the

question!!*  Nobody Owens what ever happened the the Jacks of All Trades?

Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling what you

would say. I would say that it is a good book if you want to pass some time or travel to a whole other

world.  I would tell them the plot of the book and a short summary of the book. Something that

interested me about the book that made me want to read it.  You could relate to some of the events

that happen in the book. Or I would tell the person that you can learn something from the book that

could make you look at life differently.  

If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain the

scene with details and why it's important.   An important scene that I think is important if they made

a movie of my book is when Nobody does a dream walk.  Basically Nobody is dealing with two bullies

at school and since he lives in a graveyard he learned how to dream walk.  He goes into one of the

bully’s dreams and starts talking to him. The bully becomes scared and screams and wakes up,

Nobody is satisfied and starts on his way home when he gets arrested by the other bully’s uncle.  The

uncle is taking Nobody back to the police station when Nobody’s guardian Silas gets hit by the car.

*Silas is not alive and can not be killed by this.* Nobody is released from custody and Silas takes him

home to the graveyard.
