Name: Abby Vogt

Title of Book: The Babysitters Club 2

Author: R.L.Stine

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific. The problem in the book
is was that Jenny was getting creepy phone calls when she was babysitting job. She got the same
creepy phone calls that she got when she was at her last babysitting job. Jenny did not know how
she was getting them because Mr.Hegan was dead. Mr.Hegan was the one who was giving Jenny
the creepy phone calls before. And then Jenny found out that Mrs.Gurney, the secretary at her
Therapists office was giving her the creepy phone calls. Jenny’s Therapist records what she says
because he can not remember what she says. Jenny told her Therapist what the phone calls said
and what they sounded like. Mrs.Gunney went through the recordings and listened to them.
Mrs.Gurney was mad at Jenny because all of the attention was on her. So Mrs. Gurney decided
to start giving Jenny creepy phone calls.

What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know. The
author’s purpose of writing this book is to entertain people because it is about something that
is scary.  Things are not to inform people or to persuade people. It is entertaining because it
has some parts where it gets very intense.

What did the title have to do with the book?
The title of the book has to do with the story because it is about a girl named Jenny that
babysits.
Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.
The setting of the book made the story more interesting because most of it is at the rock
quarry and the rock quarry is like in the middle of  nowhere and you are standing on the
edge of a clift and you don´t know what is going to happen next.
If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make
sure the question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the
character with the question!!*
I would want Jenny to visit our school and I would ask her how she survived almost being
killed by Mr. Hegan.
Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling
what you would say.
I would recommend this book because it has a lot of well thought out and complex characters
and a very detailed setting .  It was very entertaining and suspenseful . It is a very fun book to
read.
If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain
the scene with details and why it's important.

Emma Geiser's Book Report on "A Dog's Purpose"

Name:

Title of Book: A Dogs Purpose

Author: W.Bruce Cameron

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific. A dog named Bailey has
all these different lives as a companion, but her one true owner was Eathen. That was her first owner as
a golden retriever. It was solved by being the last dog she is, which is a mutt, escapes from her bad life
of being chained up in a small backyard, and finds a farm that looks very firmiliar. Sooner or later Bailey
sees Eathen all grown up, she recognizes him and jumps on him and gives him kisses. Eathen being
unfirmiliar with the dog, is freaking out. Bailey is all rough looking and dirty so Eathen gives her a bath
and food. There was a trick that he used to do with Bailey and that was he would through a football
and lean down, and Bailey would jump over him and catch it. So he tried that with her. And the dog
did it. He new it was Bailey and from then on they lived together happily ever after.

What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know. To
entertain. I now this because he’s not persuading anyone to buy something or do something. And it’s
not to inform because it’s not a true story. The author is entertaining you about a dogs life and events.

What did the title have to do with the book? The title is A Dogs Purpose, and in the book it shows
dogs just aren’t just laying around eating or chewing things. Their there to help you get through things,
or someone to hang out with. Their our companions.

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific. The
setting explained the condition the dog was in, or home. You can picture the background as you read,
so you get what the dog looks like, what all the owners look like, so on.

If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make
sure the question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the
character with the question!!*
I would ask Eathen how it was like to have a dog come up to you, and do a trick you haven’t done
in years, was it freaky, did it make you sad, because the old Bailey died of old age, or was it more
clear that you’ve got Bailey back?
Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling
what you would say.
Well first I would tell them that this book will bring tears to any animal lover. Then I would tell them
every chapter leaves you in suspense, makes you want to read more and more. Next I would tell them
about all the owners and dogs, and how they might relate to any of them, I know I do. Then I will talk
about how interesting the book really is, it’s the purpose of having a dog, so if they have a pet, they
might think more about it. Finally I would say recommend this to other people, it will mess with your
emotions, but it’s a heartwarmer.
If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include.
Explain the scene with details and why it's important.
They did make a movie about it. The scene that’s most important is the begging, it tells you about
the bonding of Bailey and Eathen, and that explains why she misses him so much, without it we
wouldn’t know why she wants to go through all these challenges to get to him.

Lucas Murray's Book Report on "Somewhere there is Still a Sun"

Name: Lucas Murray

Title of Book: Somewhere There Is Still a Sun

Author: Michael Gruenbaum

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.
Michael was going through tough times when the Nazis kept putting rules on the jews.
After they repeatedly put rules on the jews they transported them to concentration camps.
After a long time in the camps the Germans lost the war and the Jews were set free.

What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.
He writes to inform about his life in the time of the war. I know this because the author of
this book is also the main character in the book.

What did the title have to do with the book?
The title is a saying that is said in the book for hope when Michael is in a tough time.

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.
The setting of the book is in the concentration camp named Terezin.  It is interesting
because the book is in very good detail, so you can picture everything in your head.

If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make
sure the question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the
character with the question!!*
Michael:Would you have done anything different when you look at the past.

Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling
what you would say.
This is a very good book to read.  It is very accurate in its time period.   You will learn a lot
about the holocaust and the war.  It is not very hard to read, and not too long of a book.

If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain
the scene with details and why it's important.
The scene where Michael`s dad is being buried and when he is handed the shovel and has
a meltdown and blacks out.  Ithink this really adds to the plot and makes the story better.

David Smith's Book Report on "Courage and Defiance"

Name:David Smith

Title of Book:Courage and Defiance
Author: Deborah Hopkinson

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.
The Problem is Nazis have just invaded Denmark and the way it was stopped was by placing spies
in Denmark, and the saboteurs  sabotaging German vehicles and supplies.

What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.
The author’s purpose was to inform. I knew this because of all the information was true and
there was a lot of it.

What did the title have to do with the book?
It explained who was sabotaging German vehicles and other people that were helping Denmark
resist against German forces.

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.
The setting was in Denmark during the Nazi invasion. It made it more interesting by saying
the names of spies and saboteurs such as Tommy Sneum

If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make sure
the question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the character
with the question!!*
Tommy how nervous were you when you arrived in Denmark during the Nazi invasion on Denmark?

Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling what you
would say. I would say this book, if you are looking for good information about the invasion  on
Denmark, is a good one because of a lot of information about things that happened in Denmark
and information that helped stop the invasion, but at the same time cause trouble for themselves
and other innocent people that got involved with the Nazis.

If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain the
scene with details and why it's important. If they made a movie a scene that would need to be in
it would be about a man who was transmitting radio signals and got caught and was surrounded
by hundreds of Nazis and police units. It would be important because it would show what
happened if you got caught.

Andrew Wolfanger's Book Report on "A Dog's Way Home"

Name: Andrew Wolfanger

Title of Book: A Dog’s Way Home

Author: W. Bruce Cameron

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.
The main problem in this story is that Lucas can’t have a dog in his apartment and Bella
is apparently a pit bull which is banned in Denver where he lives, so his dog, Bella, gets sent
to a place hundreds of miles away until Lucas can find a new place to live. However, Bella
doesn’t know this is temporary, so she runs away and faces a long, dangerous journey to get
back home.  Through her journey, she meets various characters, helpful and bad, and eventually
finds her way home.
What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.
I think the author’s purpose is to entertain the reader. I know this because it’s a fictional
story of a suspenseful, entertaining journey that kept me hooked the whole way through.

What did the title have to do with the book?
The title,  A Dog’s Way Home, refers to when Lucas saved Bella’s life so Bella felt that her
home would always be with Lucas, so when Lucas sent her away, she struggles to get back
to Lucas.

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be Specific
It takes place in various settings.  The majority of her adventure takes place in the forests
and other people’s homes.  In the forest, she struggles to get food until she meets a mountain
lion that helps her for a while. Also, during the winter it’s very cold, windy, and hard to walk
through with all the snow.  With all the temporary owners and people she meets, it creates
conflict such as breaking away from people she’s learned to love and escaping danger.
Bella’s constant encounters with danger and the various settings are what make this story
so interesting.

If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make sure
the question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the character
with the question!!*
I’d ask Bella what type of dog she really is and the types of dogs her parents were, because
it doesn’t say exactly in the book.  This is relevant to the plot because an animal patrol
officer threatens to take Bella to the pound or put her down because he thinks she’s a pit
bull which are banned in Denver because they can be violent.  This is one of the main reasons
Lucas has to send Bella away.

Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling what
you would say.
This is a great, suspensful, entertaining book about a dog finding her way back to her
owner.  If you like suspenseful, emotional, adventurous books about dogs, this might just
be the book for you.  It also has a happy ending eventually. This is a story you would enjoy
if you’ve ever been attached to an animal.  It is sure to keep you hooked till the end.

If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain
the scene with details and why it's important.
I think if they made a movie about this book, they would have to include the scene where
Bella came back to Lucas.  When Bella went back to the VA where she once worked as
an emotional support dog, the mean animal patrol officer that threatened to send her to
the pound years ago, and the reason Bella had to leave in the first place, followed her
and wanted to take her to the pound to be put down.  All the former soldiers told him that
if he was going to take Bella, he would have to get through them. Eventually, the cops
came and the sheriff said to let Bella go to Lucas’s new home and he fired the animal
patrol officer because all the other officers complained about him sending too many dogs
to the pound that he thought were pitbulls.

Alexa Schneider's Book Report on "Lyddie"

Name:  Alexa Schneider

Title of Book:  Lyddie

Author: Katherine Peterson

What was the problem in the book, and how was it solved? Be specific.
The problem in the book was, Lyddie and her family did not have a lot of money because their dad
ran away and never came back, so they weren't able to keep the farm going. Lyddie and her brother
were sent to two different places to earn money. Their mom died so the uncle sold the farm to this
man. The solution was, she worked at the factory to earn money, to try to get the farm back. Even
though she couldn’t get the farm back she was able to go to college with the money she earned.

What was the author's purpose or purposes in writing the book? Explain how you know.
The author's  purpose is to entertain the reader. I know because, it is talking about Lydie’s life and
what she did her whole life to survive. It tells you what Lyddie  was forced to do. The book told
you what her brother did, what happened to her dad and mother. It gave you Lydie’s life story.

What did the title have to do with the book?
The title was Lyddie. That had to do with the book because the main character was Lyddie. It
showed that  Lyddie did not know what her mom did nor her brother when she was working
with a different family. It talked about Lyddie’s life throughout the story. It showed what she
did and how she did it. The whole book was about Lyddie.

Tell in your own words how the setting of the story made it more interesting. Be specific.
It was exciting because the setting changed several times. For example, the story began with
Lyddie at her family’s home,  then moved to the first placed she worked, then to the factory
setting. The story ends with Lyddie stopping back at her family’s home.

If one of the characters visited our classroom, what question would you ask them? (Make sure
the question relates to the plot/problem/actions of the story.) *Give the name of the character
with the question!!*  I would ask Lyddie “what was it like to work with a whole different family
who did not seem to like or comfort her, did she miss her mom at those times?”

Pretend you are a librarian recommending the book to someone. Write a paragraph telling
what you would say.  I would recommend this book to others. This book is very interesting.
It dates back to when the most money you could get was like 20 cents a week. It shows that
no matter what you never give up. Lyddie lost her horse and barn. She also lost her mom,
dad, and didn’t work with her brother, but she made it through and taught herself what to
do.It shows you what it was like way back then and what people had and did. I would
definitely recommend this book.

If they made a movie of this book, which scene would be most important to include. Explain
the scene with details and why it's important.  The scene that would be most important would
be the scene where she goes back to her farm and sees a black man. This would be the most
important because this is where the plot starts to begin. When she goes back and is trying
to earn more money. In this scene they would have to show what the house, barn, farm and
animals looked like. They would have to show the black man with a fire going and  the ladder
that Lyddie was able to get into the house. That would be the most important scene.
